Update on Scott and I

16 Jul
I realized yesterday that I haven’t given an update on how Scott and I are doing, after our “issues” a few weeks ago.

I am very happy to say that I feel as though we’re pretty much back to normal. Pretty much was thrown in there because we are still making an effort to talk to each other about how we’re feeling about things.

Yesterday was a bit of a breakthrough, however. I’m getting to the point in the summer where the kiddos are driving me a bit batty. I think I’m probably driving them batty too! Toad is being defiant and has taken to pouting, and Babygirl is starting to bawl at the drop of a hat. Yeah, I think we’ve all had enough of each other. Anyway, yesterday SIL was over to use the computer when Scott came home, he ran around doing a few things (that man needs to learn to stop and smell the roses a bit more often), then grabbed the broken lawnmower belt and said that he was heading into town to get a new belt. Into town meant that he’d be gone at LEAST 45 minutes (15 minutes to get there, 15 minutes to get back, and 15 minutes to bullshit with the people at the store).

I was not very happy about it. I was in one of those “I need to work but can’t focus” modes, and really just wanted a little time off from the kiddos.

SIL came and sat with me outside and we watched Scott grab the belt and come up and say goodbye.

“I really wish you wouldn’t go right now.”

“Yeah, I know.” he replied right before he headed to the cars. “Well,” he yelled back, “I can stay and you can mow the lawn.”

“You’re not even mowing the lawn tonight you said!”

He didn’t reply. Instead, he walked to the cars.

“Please don’t take my van!”

He didn’t reply again, and, instead, got into the van. I only wanted him to avoid taking the van because the van takes more gas to drive than the Escort does.

He started the van and headed down the road, definitely making me a bit miffed.

A few seconds later the van pulls back up into the driveway and he gets out and heads into the house.

SIL headed out, remarking that I was in for a pissy evening, she was sure.

I headed into the house pretty assured that I definitely was in for a pissy evening.

Scott was fine. I asked him why he came back, and he replied, “you didn’t want me to go right now.”

…..I was speechless. This is the first time he’s actually taken what I desired into consideration when he had a “bee in his bonnet” about doing something he wanted to get done.

Holy crap.

I gave him a huge hug and thanked him profusely for sticking around a bit. He played with the kiddos and generally played peacemaker between us all evening (we needed a peacemaker).

This week is his last week of work before vacation. He’ll then have 2 weeks off. I’m going to try to plan to do something really nice for him – and for us – because I definitely think we both deserve some time together.
