Every Wednesday I will be reviewing sex toys from the fabulous VibeReview! You can find this sex toy, along with tons of other great ones, at their website.
I’m a book lover. I love reading books for my enjoyment, and I love learning about things by cracking open a book or two. I’ve been known to waste hours on the internet learning things, starting from one topic, such as the new gymnastics vaulting horse (have you seen that thing? It’s so odd!), and winding up looking up all of the classic 80’s songs that I remember in an effort to try to find the most “80 of the 80’s”. I know, I have no idea how my mind went from vaulting to 80’s songs…and if you think that’s bad, you should see how often I try to twist sex into my daily life! It’s a bit hard with kiddos, but we try!
Sorry, I’m digressing here…
One of the things I wanted to check out from VibeReview was The Pictorial Guide to Tantric Sex Positions. This is a small book written by Kay Parker, who, according to my research, was a fairly respected actress in porn movies before she left the porn world to become a new age author.
Now why, you’re asking, would I request a book from a sex toy company when I could have requested something like the highly rated Liv or the extremely well known Rabbit Habit? Well my dear, step into my parlor…
When I make love with Scott, I normally feel like I’m rushing for the goal. The touchdown, to me, is far more important than rushing yards passing under my feet. It’s the fireworks behind my eyes that I’m after, the rest of it is just the price of admission. I didn’t want to be that way, and I remember watching American Pie 2 and hearing one of the characters talk about tantric sex, and how it’s all about delaying the gratification so that when you finally achieve it, it is much more explosive than you could ever hope for.
I’m not sure how other tantric books work, but this one uses Yoga to achieve the desired goal. No problem. I’m not a huge Yoga person, but I was sure that this wouldn’t be anywhere near as intense as some of the other sexual things I’ve done in the past few years. Scott and I opened up the book and got ready to give it a shot one evening, and I found that it was much more difficult than I thought it would be! The book starts with a warm up, which basically includes sitting nude in front of your partner. You’d think this was easy, but when you’ve got a horrible sense of self-esteem like me, it’s not.
After some stretching (where we giggled most of the time), we moved right on to the different positions. The pictures in this book are beautiful. They are very artistic in nature and do an excellent job of showing you exactly how to do each position in the book.
There were tons of positions to try, and we managed to thumb through and find a few that we’d never tried before. The only problem? Scott isn’t able to “delay gratification”. Once we reached the section where the woman takes over the situation, he started seeing his own fireworks!
The Pros: This book is a great one to give someone who is interested in learning more positions and how to delay gratification but who is of a more conservative nature. The photos are beautifully artistic and, while they’re graphic, they aren’t offensive in any way.
The Cons: We’ve only gotten a little way through this book, and I can tell that it’s not something you just pick up and do one day. It’s something that requires a whole change of attitude, so if you’re happy with the way your sex life is, it may not be something you need. It looks as though it can, however, delay gratification and make it much more intense if you’re willing to stick with it and practice once in awhile. And well all know that when it comes to sex, practicing is extremely important. So remember: practice, practice, practice this weekend!
