Which Is Worse, A Cold Or A Fireing?

3 Feb

A lovely nasty little cold bug has nested in my house and has decided to kick up it’s feet in a recliner and become comfy. It started with Toad (briefly) and then moved onto Babygirl and Scott, at which point I knew that I was doomed, because anything Scott gets, I’m going to get. Sure enough Saturday morning I woke up with a sore throat which morphed into a vicious glass-in-throat monster by Saturday evening, and Sunday? Sunday was filled with tons of chicken noodle soup and juice.

Monday morning my throat still hurt and I shucked the kids off to school – don’t worry, they didn’t have a fever or anything – and came home, intending to lay on the couch and wallow in cold misery.

When I drove into the driveway, Scott’s car was there. Huh?

Turn out that he and one of his little supervisors had an altercation. I use the term little supervisor because there are tons of different bosses where he works. Let’s call him LS so that I can rest my aching fingers. Apparently LS and Scott have gone around the bend a few times lately. LS wants Scott to do certain things in his job, and Scott has no problem doing that – but then LS will come back and change what he wants, screwing up Scott’s day.

Let me clarify something – Scott has worked at his place of employment for 15 years. FIFTEEN. Dude, I’ve never worked somewhere that long. Fifteen years makes him sound old, doesn’t it?! But he’s only 36. Anyway, he has an excellent record there and everyone has told me that he does his job and does it well.

Because he wasn’t sure what LS wanted, as he keeps getting in trouble for doing the wrong thing, he decided to do the first load and to wait for LS to come over to his machine to tell him what he wanted done next. When LS finally got there, he yelled at Scott – he called him a “lazy son-of-a-bitch” and “worthless”, not to mention tons of other phrases that I’m going to have to document here in a few minutes.

Scott told him that he needed to stop speaking to him that way – that he didn’t need to take that. LS kept swearing at him so Scott left and went to his Big Supervisor’s office (henceforth known as BS – ha – that makes a sick kind of sense). BS wasn’t there. He went to another office – that supervisor wasn’t there. So he came home.

When he got home he called and left a message for BS to let him know what happened. BS got the message before his break but didn’t call back until after it. During the short conversation, BS basically told Scott that he was going to talk to the Head Supervisor (HS) when he saw him and was a bit curt to Scott on the phone.

Hours passed and no one called. Finally Scott called the HR office and the woman there had heard what happened and said that she’d call Scott “but probably not today”.

So he went into work this morning, because *I* was worried that if he didn’t, it’d be deemed that he abandoned his job. He returned home shortly after he left as he was apparently told that he needed to go home until they called him.

So we don’t know what’s going on now. There’s no union at Scott’s place of employment (employees tried to get one in about 8 years ago and it didn’t go), but in the employee handbook it clearly states that profanity is not allowed and that “causing friction among other employees so as to decrease the morale, adversely affect employee-supervisor relations or interfere with production” is not permitted.

Anyone got any thoughts??

I am just going to keep my fingers crossed for you all! 15 years is a long time to work in the same place and loyalty should count for something!

No one should be treated that way, especially when they are an exemplary employee! I think Scott was so brave in standing up for himself and not letting this nasty LS treat him this way. Good always triumphs over evil so I am sure management are just trying to make sure their asses are covered before they apologise to Scott and send LS on his way.

    *happy thoughts to you all*

And hope you are feeling better too!!!!!
