Real Cobblestone, Real Weekend

Real Cobblestone, originally uploaded by scootersbabygirl.

Scott and I went on our annual anniversary trip this weekend. We tend to go to Mass, but this year we headed to Portland, Maine. We’d been to Old Orchard Beach, but we’d never been to Portland. Here are a few lessons that I learned while we were in Portland.

1. Real cobblestone streets? Do a number on your vehicle and actually hurt your feet to walk on when your shoes don’t have thick soles on them.

2. If you go to Portland? Head to Peaks Island. It’s a quaint little island with really nice people.

3. If you go to Peaks Island? Rent a bicycle and ride around the island.

4. If you rent a bicycle? Remember that your job is fairly sedentary and that you’re going to hurt, big time, after the ride.

5. Arbys? Totally kicks ass! Why didn’t anyone tell me how delicious their food was? We don’t have an Arbys in Vermont. Nor is there one in New Hampshire. But now that I’ve tasted their food, I really want there to be one around here!!!

6. Jacuzzi tubs in hotel rooms? Rock.

7. Free tickets to see Iron Man 2? Rocks as well.

8. GPS units? Are quite possibly the best things ever invented. Aside from Arbys, of course.

9. If you’re in Portland and looking for the best lobster roll? Skip the expensive joints and hit up Portland Lobster Co. Casual, right on the water, and absolutely delicious!!

10. If your relationship is having issues, spending a total of 8 hours together in a car can definitely help you to get the both of you on the same page.

We had a wonderful time in Portland, even though we missed the kiddos. But they had fun with Grammy and were really happy to have us home (the presents could’ve had something to do with it). And while I now have a boatload of projects to get done, I definitely don’t regret our vacation, and can’t believe that tomorrow I’ll have been married for 8 years. WOW.

Happy Anniversary! Glad you had a good time. I very much enjoyed our trip to Portland several years ago. That lovely downtown area is where I bought my first toe ring!
